Nominated for the AHO Works prize for Complexity and Holistic Approach
AHO offers 4th year students the rare opportunity to create one's own self-initiated master course. Together with Johanna Forss, we decided to take this opportunity to explore the cultural phenomenon called web.3, what it is and how it affects the design field.

When the internet became accessible for the public in the 90's, it grasped the minds of our collective culture as a tool for democratisation, free ideas and uniting the world. 30 years later, the perception around the internet has taken quite the turn. A bleak look of "fake news," censorship, algorithmic flow of information and group polarisation are more likely to be our new associations. When the concept of "web.3" took hold in 2021, we became fascinated with this tendency to be incredibly wrong about what we think novel technology is versus what it actually becomes. Whilst many associate web.3 (aka the internet of transaction) as a get-rich-quick scheme of speculative investing within a self-referential bubble, we asked ourselves the question of what could this look like implemented within society? These exercises of understanding the "bare bones" of the technology and then contextualising it within society, allowed us to get a very different perspective of the phenomenon and how designers may prepare themselves for future changes.

We were also incredibly honored to have Snøhetta architect, Henry Stephens, supervise and mentor us through this design research process.
